Requirements To Complete

About This License

This license allows someone to complete commercial or residential projects, modular, industrial, institutional, as well as all other types of building construction. Remodeling and new construction are allowed as well as the ancillary work and grading for the structure. It includes all work allowed under the sub-classifications of Wood Frame Structures-Class 2, Interior Renovation, Masonry, Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings, General Roofing, and Structural Shapes. It does NOT include Swimming Pools, Bridges, Boring and Tunneling, Water and Sewer Lines, Pipe Lines, Railroad Lines, Specialty Roofing, Marine, Water and Sewer Plants, and Asphalt Paving.

Requirements to Obtaining Your License

  • Please note that the Commercial Business and Law Exam must be passed in addition to the trade exam.
  • As of 11-1-2016, pre-approval from NASCLA is required to sit for the examination. This is done by submitting a completed application.
  • A minimum of 2 years of commercial experience within the last 5 years.

Applying For Your License

All applicants will be required to submit a credit report with their application. The licensing fee is $350.

Exam Details

  • 81% is required to pass.
  • Topics on the exam include estimating, bidding and preconstruction service; project management; project construction; project closeout; business and financial management.
  • The fee for the exam is $106.
  • To schedule your exam, you must first obtain pre-approval from NASCLA. Then, contact PSI at 1-800-733-9267.
