About this License

  • A Master Plumbing License covers unlimited plumbing work including sanitary drainage, water supply, storm drainage, and natural gas piping.
  • A Journeyman Plumbing license covers unlimited plumbing work including sanitary drainage, water supply, storm drainage, and natural gas piping while under the supervision of a Master Plumber

Requirements to Obtaining your License

  • To qualify for the master's licensing exam you must work as a licensed journeyman for at least six months.
  • To qualify for the journeyman's licensing exam you need to complete a Board-approved apprenticeship program which includes four years of work experience and four years of education.
  • Must submit documentation on your experience

Exam Review, Training, Education

Exam Details

  • 105 questions and a time limit of 4hrs (Master Exam)
  • 75 questions and a time limit of 3hrs (Journeyman Exam)
  • Exam requires a 70% to pass.
  • Topics on the Builder examination includes: Plumbing Fixtures & Terminology, Plumbing Fundamentals, Traps, Clean outs, & Interceptors, Special Requirements, Drainage Requirements, Venting Requirements, Water Distribution, Plan Reading, Administration

Continuing Education

As of this time, there is no continuing education for this license

Applying to Get Your License

It will cost you $25 to file an application for a plumbing license. The master license costs $125 and the journeyman license costs $60. A plumbing license is good for one year.
