About This License

The scope of work includes the construction of commercial or residential buildings that are no greater than 3 stories in height.

Requirements to Obtaining Your License

  • A minimum of 2 years of commercial experience within the last 5 years
  • Please note that the Commercial Business and Law Exam must be passed in addition to the trade exam.

Applying For Your License

Submit an application to the state licensing board with documentation of your experience, financial information and your passing test scores.

Exam Details

  • 80 questions and a time limit of 4 hours
  • A score of 70% (56 questions correct) is needed to pass.
  • Exam fee is $75

Exam Review Education

We offer review for the South Carolina Limited Building Contractor Exam through home study/ online course format. The fee for the online class is $199.99. The program takes you through each one of the reference books that the exam is based on showing you exactly what to highlight. After your highlighting is completed with each book, you have the option take an online practice test to reinforce concepts presented. Also, there is an extensive math and plans analysis portion.
