Arkansas Residential Electrician (Master and Journeyman)

All electrical work in Arkansas requires a license.

Residential Master Electrician: New applicants must have three years experience in wiring one or two family dwellings.

Residential Journeyman Electrician: New applicants must have two years experience in wiring one or two family dwellings.
- Pre-approval is required from the board before sitting for the exam.

| Services: |
A Residential Master electrician is any person who engages in the business of installing electrical power or control systems; maintaining, altering or repairing any electrical devices, equipment, or any other electrical apparatus in a one or two family dwelling. A Residential Journeyman electrician works under the supervision of a master electrician.

| Applications: |
The license fee is $50 per year for a master license and $25 for a journeyman license.
To apply for a license, contact the Arkansas Board of Electrical Examiners at 501-682-4548. Your application must be processed before sitting for the exam. Average processing time is one week.

There are no reciprocal agreements for this license as of this time. |
| Continuing Education: |
Eight hours of continuing education are required every code cycle (every three years). |
| Exam: |
- The Arkansas Residential Master Electrical exam consists of 60 questions and has a time limit of three hours while the Residential Journeyman exam has 40 questions and a time limit of 2 hours.
- The examination is OPEN book.
- The examination fee for a paper/pencil exam is $56 or if you wish to
take your test on a computer for quicker score processing the fee is
$86.
- A score of 70% is needed to pass.
